MT Tech. Super Pete's Unbreakable Axles

Welch used Austin Westerns on most of his creations. Never seen anyone else run those, but for Welch they served well. From left, Destroyer 1, Super Pete, Rolling Vengeance

This time I made axles from Mike Welch truck called Super Pete. Super Pete was modified from the truck Welch built for Rolling Vengeance, and adopted it’s technology.

I’m not sure where these axles came from or what they are. Some contemporary sources claim they are from late model crane, some say they are from mining rock crushers. Even weight rating is off, they are said to be anything from 5-tons to 20-tons. Most common seems to be 10-ton rating. Were not able to source anything quite matching from Austin Western manuals either. It is possible that not all Welch trucks (Destroyer 1, Destroyer II, Rolling Vengeance & Super Pete) shared same axles, and/or modifications were made for each. It is however 100% sure they were Austin Westerns, or Clark branded Austin Westerns. I modeled these using pictures from Welch trucks and manuals of AW and Clark cranes and graders. Top loader differentials and transfer case are approximations.
